Third District race draws little attention.

For those of you who haven't noticed, there is a primary election for the Third Congressional District set for June 1. The election has drawn little attention nationally or at the local level. The incumbent Greg Harper is running unopposed in the Republican primary while three candidates vie for the Democratic nomination.

The three Democrats who have qualified for the race are Joel Gill of Pickens, James D. Jackson of Brandon and Shawn O'Hara of Hattiesburg. A runoff election for the party's nomination, if necessary, will be held June 22.

Reform Party candidate Tracella Lou O'Hara Hill from Petal will run in the general election in November.

Strangely enough, Mississippi Congressional Candidates are not required to live in the district that they represent. This has presented a situation where three of the five candidates for the Third District (Hill, O'Hara and Gill) do not actually live in the Third District.
