Winston Co. Unemployment drops below 20% ..but....

Winston County's unemployment rate in April fell below 20% for the first time in several months but at 19.3%, the rate is the third worst in the state. Only Holmes and Noxubee Counties have higher rates of unemployed workers at 20% and 20.4% respectively. MDES statistics indicate that out of a workforce of 7480, 1440 were unemployed in April. In comparison in April 2009 , unemployment was at 14.4% and in April 2008, unemployment was at 5.8%. There were 83 new unemployment insurance claims in the county for April 2010.
