A Friday night shooting incident (7-9-10) ended with one teenager in a Jackson hospital and another detained for questioning. A single shot struck the victim who was transported to University Medical Center for treatment. Last reports are that he is in stable condition and a full recovery is expected.
The incident occurred in the parking area of the old Wal Mart shopping center on N. Church Avenue at around 10:00 pm. The Winston County Carnival was in operation in the area as well but the shooting did not occur within the confines of the Carnival. The investigation is ongoing at this time as the victim and other witnesses are being questioned for more information. Police Chief Claiborne indicated that this was apparently a random act and not gang related and a complete investigation will indicate what circumstances led to the incident.Further details provided when available.
