Winston Co. Unemployment Drops Slightly in June

Mississippi's seasonally adjusted rate of unemployment was 11% in June. This rate was slightly lower than May (11.4%) but 1.5 percentage points higher than June of 2009 (9.5). Winston County's rate followed the state's overall decline in unemployment. The County's June rate of 19.9% was a full percentage point lower than May's rate of 20.9%. Unfortunately, Winston County's level of unemployment continues to be one of the worst in the state. Only neighboring Noxubee County and Holmes County have higher rates of unemployed. There were 85 new jobless claims in the County in the month of June.
