The Louisville Board of Aldermen met on Tuesday, April 5th in a regularly scheduled meeting. The meeting was recessed for a period of time to allow members to attend the official ribbon cutting of the Market Café on Main Street. (see previous article & video). Upon the return to the meeting, the Board approved numerous items. The highlights are as follows:
Tonya McWhirter issued an invitation to the Board to attend the D.A.R.E. Graduation Ceremony on Friday, April 8th at 9 am at Louisville Elementary Auditorium.Approved a request to advertise for bids for site grading at the Louisville Airport. Dale Coward indicated that this was the first step in a three year plan for airport improvements leading to a new terminal building. Approved an invoice for $9,000 from JWS for professional services at the landfill and approved advertising for a compactor at the landfill as well. Approved police training for ten auxiliary officers in Louisville on April12 &13. The training will be provided by the Attorney General’s Office at no cost to the city. Approved Detrick Sanders to attend the Juvenile Fire Safety Program in Jackson on April 7th. This is a middle school program to encourage youth in fire safety and education. Approved a request to purchase an electric utility vehicle for the Recreation Department to replace an older vehicle that will be moved for use at the city cemetery. Cost of $3,900. Fire Chief Terry Johnson requested that the Board review the proposed burn ordinance with the goal of implementing the ordinance by the end of the month. The ordinance would require a burn permit within the city limits. Mayor Will Hill indicated that with the development of a new logo for the city, that all departments should work toward coordinating the implementation of a consistent design and logo as promotional material and items are replaced over time. Todd McCullough informed the Board that the Coliseum and/or ball fields are booked every weekend through June. Alderman Caperton expressed concern over rental property owners leaving large amounts of trash outside of the properties after a tenant has moved out. Board Attorney Tucker indicated that an ordinance could likely be implemented but that enforcement was the main issue. The Board went into executive session prior to adjourning.
