More Info on Tuesday's Civil Defense- Emergency Management Meeting

WWN would like to correct an error in yesterday's article on the Emergency Management meeting that occurred on Tuesday evening. One of the motions referred to in the meeting concerning a 4-wheeler and trailer was incorrect. The motion actually involved only a HazMat trailer. We apologize for any misunderstanding.
In addition to subjects covered in the previous article, much of the meeting covered the need for further education and training of all emergency personnel. Louisville Fire Department personnel, Brian Collier & Robert Hutto presented information about NIMS classes ( National Incident Management System).
NIMS was established after 9-11 by Homeland Security to provide a framework for all levels of government, volunteers and the private sector to work together "to prevent, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate the effects of incidents, regardless of cause, size, location, or complexity. This would include events such as natural disasters like the recent tornado activity in our area.
Members were informed that NIMS classes can also provide information on language and terms and how to provide necessary information to other governmental agencies as the need arose. Hutto indicated that these courses were provided online by the National Fire Academy and were free of charge.
