RED HILLS FESTIVAL - Here's What's Happenin!!

Red Hills Festival activities start tonight. We'll provide a full run-down of events and happenings so you can plan accordingly. FRIDAY NIGHT: The band "Backdraft" will be playing from 7 pm til 10 pm at the stage area on South Columbus as some vendors move in to set up for Saturday. The carnival is in town and will be up and going tonight with a variety of rides for the kids. The carnival is located behind the 1st Baptist Church. This is a good time to enjoy the cooler air and stroll the streets and visit with folks..

SATURDAY: Starts off with the 5k/Fun Run sponsored by the Junior Auxiliary. Runners & Walkers start at 8 and 9 am from N. Columbus between the Post Office and Tabor Drugs. Louisville Homecoming will have a tent in front of Citizen's bank for out-of-towners to sign up for a gift basket to be given away. If you have Louisville/Winston County ties be sure to stop by & visit. It may be a way to connect to some old friends.

The Festival kicks off around 9:00 with the National Anthem sung by Laurel Ball and our MC for the day is Brother Larry Haggard. This being an election year, politics will dominate the stage as 20 -25 candidates will stump for their campaigns throughout the day. This should include a few candidates for statewide office as well. But don't worry-- speeches are limited to three minutes or so..
At 10:00, the awards for the winners of the 5K/Fun Run will be presented and at 10:30 get ready for "Poetry Slam" as Daniel Green and friends take the stage. A bit later, Tracy McCully will perform and then the young folks of "Steady On"; A little more politikin takes place, as more candidates hit the stage. At 1:00 pm Adam & Tara Lowery perform followed by the drawing for the Homecoming Basket and the band "K.P.'s Codgers" from Kosciusko will finish the day's entertainment until 3:30.
There' s still more going on!! Alyne Haynes will be preparing plate lunches from 11 til 3 on Park Street next to Caperton Auto and the Louisville Fire Department is providing a shuttle service between the Festival and the Fire Museum on N. Church. It's a great way to cool off and visit the Museum which is normally only open by appointment. Pick up is on N. Columbus next to Tabor Drugs. Also, Louisville High School Band Alumni should run by the Library and sign the alumni list and check out some of the band photos from year's past.
After cruising the Festival and checking out all the vendors, head on over to the First Baptist parking lot where the Red Hills Car Show is taking place. Lots of classes - and registration runs from 8-10.
If cars aren't your cup of tea, try out the Antique Sale at First Methodist Church throughout the day. They will also have food and the County-Wide Bake Sale will be going on there as well. Proceeds from the bake sale will go to help county victims of last month's tornado.
As you spend the day at the Red Hills Festival, take a moment to thank the organizers and volunteers who work so hard throughout the year to bring this all together, If we left anything out - we apologize - and remember to always let us know if you are planning a nonprofit event.
