Absentee voting has begun in Winston County. Circuit Clerk Kim Ming indicated that Monday was a heavy day for absentee ballots and that a number of ballots have been mailed from her office to voters. Statewide primary elections are scheduled for Tuesday, August 2 and Winston County has a large field of candidates for local offices. In those races where no candidate receives 50% of the vote, the top two vote-getters will participate in a runoff scheduled three weeks after the primary on August 23. Voters should contact the Circuit Clerk’s office to obtain an absentee ballot or for more information.
Ming reminds the voters that they may vote in either primary (Democrat or Republican) but must also vote the same party in any runoffs. In other words, a voter who casts their vote in the Democratic primary can only vote in a Democratic runoff. She also wanted to remind young voters under the age of 17 who recently registered and who will reach the age of 18 prior to the general election in November that they can vote in the primaries even though they are not yet 18.
Sample ballots are now available at the Circuit Clerk’s office and WWN has pdf copies available online by clicking here or the ballots can be viewed online by clicking here.
