The members of the Pilot Club of Louisville was one of hundreds of Pilot members from five countries who convened in Dallas July 13-16 for the Pilot International Annual Meeting & Leadership Conference held at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel. Presiding officer for the event was 2010-2011 Pilot International President, Susan Hoffman of Lenexa, KS. She is succeeded by Beverly Wilkes of Louisville, MS, who was installed as 2011-2012 PI President on the last day of the conference.
Those attending the event participated in leadership training seminars, varied workshops, and fund raising events for the Pilot International Foundation. Special guests speakers were Dr. John Hart, Director of Medical Science at Dallas's center for Brain Health, Consultant Susan Hite of Apex, NC, and Jason Raia of Freedoms Foundation, Valley Forge, PA. Entertainment included country vocalists Larry Gatlin and Melody Guy.
Now in its 90th year, Pilot International is a volunteer service organization with more than 400 Pilot Clubs in five countries. Pilot's service focus is brain disorders/diseases, and each year, Pilot Clubs receive matching grants from the Pilot International Foundation to conduct programs and projects that assist those in their community who are affected by illnesses that include Alzheimer's disease, traumatic brain injuries, post-traumatic stress disorders, schizophrenia, depression and similar.
