Board of Alderman Highlights

The Louisville Board of Aldermen met on Tuesday. After a special meeting last week to approve the upcoming budget, the Board had a shorter agenda than usual for this regularly scheduled meeting:
The Board approved and authorized the payment for the closeout on the EECBG grant (Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant).
Accepted a bid of $62160 from Malone Tractor in Meridian for a John Deere tractor to be purchased in conjunction with Louisville Utilities. The accepted bid was the only one of two that met the requested specifications.
Appointed John Coleman to the Winston County Economic Development Board in a unanimous decision.
Approved payment to Watkins Ward & Stafford for $17500 for an annual audit.
Approved quarterly payments to the Ms Municipal Workers Workers Compensation for a total of $66953.
Accepted a DUI grant for the Police Department in the amount of $56709
Approved Kenny Morris to attend the SWANA (Solid Waste Association of America) Conference in Natchez on October 18-20.
Tabled approval for Police Chief Claiborne to attend the 911 Coordinators Fall Training in Tunica.
Alderman Caperton addressed questions to Board Attorney Tucker concerning the city's ability to control or restrict the sale of liquor within the city limits if the liquor referendum on the November ballot passes. Tucker indicated that the state issues liquor licenses and regulates some locational issues such as proximity to churches and schools. He indicated that the city had the authority to regulate operating hours and location but not the number of businesses.
The Board meets again on October 4th.
