LMSD Meets with Local Media - Let's Get the Word Out!

Principals, teachers, athletic directors and students from the Louisville Municipal School District met with local online and print media on Wednesday (Sept 28) to work toward improving media coverage and get the message out about education, sports and activities at all our local schools. Assistant Superintendent Ken McMullan led the discussion as Joseph McCain of the Winston County Journal and William McCully of Winston Web News spoke of their respective media. School officials were encouraged to provide more info through email contact and also through the social media tool, Twitter. Winston Web News is currently providing a “Friday Nite Tweets” page that incorporates Twitter posts from school officials and parents during high school football games at all schools. By incorporating Twitter posts into page feeds and posting the same information to Facebook, area residents are able to follow Noxapater, Nanih Waiya, Louisville and Winston Academy teams even if they don’t directly use Twitter.
McMullan noted the importance of media relations and getting the message out about the good things that happen at our schools. He indicated that some school districts actually hire public relations staff for this purpose and encouraged school personnel to be more active in promoting their respective schools, not only in sports but in all activities. In addition to Twitter, web page development, blog posts and youtube were topics of conversation.
