The Gloves Come Off for Upcoming Battle of the Choirs

Area church choirs are asked to take off the gloves and have a little friendly competition in the upcoming “Battle of the Choirs” to be held on January 20th at the Louisville Coliseum. The Winston County Partners for Community Living are sponsoring the event to promote the “Turning the Tide on Poverty” program across Winston County. An initiative of the Southern Rural Development Center in conjunction with Mississippi State Extension Service, “Turning the Tide " is designed to promote community involvement in fighting the issues of poverty.
The Battle of the Choirs is an event to inform and encourage the public to take part in the Turning the Tide program as members of discussion groups called community circles. The circles will be held at various locations and times to accommodate the members. Participants meet once a week over a five week period to discuss issues relating to poverty, schools, jobs and services in Winston County and to ultimately present workable ideas that can be implemented to improve the quality of live for all Winston Countians. These circles provide a great way for everyone from all walks of life to have a voice in the focus and type of projects pursued.
Area Choirs are encouraged to participate in this first of its kind event as an independent team of judges chooses their favorite choir. Other awards will be presented as well as the choirs perform two songs during the contest. The deadline for sign-up is December 9th and requires a $25 entrance fee. The number of entrants is limited. If you need more information about the event contact: Frank Cooper @ 662-736-2547, the Winston Co. Extension Office @662-773-5531 or the Louisville’s Mayor’s Office @ 662-773-9201.
