By all reports, voter turnout for today's general election has been heavy to moderate across Winston County. Excellent weather, several statewide initiatives, a few hotly contested local races and a county liquor referendum have encouraged voter turnout. The polls close at 7 pm and counting will begin quickly after the polls close. However, the large number of absentee ballots may delay final results until late into the evening or early morning hours. The Winston County Circuit Clerk's Office indicates that 976l absentee ballots have been filed. This is significantly more than were filed in the primaries..
