Citizens Asked to Participate in Community Discussion at Upcoming "Battle of the Choirs"

Winston County is gearing up for the Turning the Tide on Poverty Program with a kickoff event at the Louisville Coliseum at 6 pm on Friday night, January 20th. The Battle of the Church Choirs will be an opportunity for area residents to hear choirs from local churches perform as well as learn more about  citizen participation in the Turning the Tide on Poverty Program.
The Winston County Partners for Community Living are sponsoring the event to promote the “Turning the Tide on Poverty” program across Winston County. An initiative of the Southern Rural Development Center in conjunction with Mississippi State Extension Service, “Turning the Tide " is designed to promote community involvement in fighting the issues of poverty.
The Battle of the Choirs is an event to inform and encourage the public to take part in the Turning the Tide program as members of discussion groups called community circles. The circles will be held at various locations and times to accommodate the members. Participants meet once a week over a five week period to discuss issues relating to poverty, schools, jobs and services in Winston County and to ultimately present workable ideas that can be implemented to improve the quality of live for all Winston Countians. Citizens from all walks of life are encouraged to participate and have their voices heard concerning future programs and efforts to improve our communities.
