LMSD Board Looks to Upcoming District 3 & 4 Trustee Election

The Louisville Municipal School District's Board of Trustees met on Tuesday (2-21-12) and covered a short agenda. Here are the highlights:
  • Removed items from the the fixed asset list.
  • Approved a list of substitute teachers.
  • Reviewed financial reports including claim dockets, bank balances and financial statements.
  • Approved several small grants and a check approval for $200 for transportation assistance for the parents of a pre-K special needs child who was injured at the Noxapater Attendance Center and required transport to a Jackson hospital. The emergency need was met by the school until insurance could take action.
  • Approved to advertise for a depository for the 2012-2013 year. Renasant Bank is the current depository.
  • Approved a resolution for Golden Triangle Planning & Development (GTPD) to prepare a grant application to ARC for vocational equipment for the Vo-Tech. The $80,000 grant requires a $20,000 match but this requirement will likely be met by materials provided to the school from Taylor Machine Works.
  • Took no action on a transfer request of a student from LMSD to the Neshoba School District.
  • Dealt with several 16th section lease issues including acceptance of high bids for three tracts of timber on 16th section land; Highpoint area -high bid $57487... Brooksville Rd - high bid $125,896... Ellison Ridge - $83046.
  • Discussed a possible request from District 4 Supervisor Gloria Turnipseed to create a small park area on 16th section land in the Highpoint area. Superintendent Wade indicated that it would be possible to legally allow the county to have such a lease, however the property in question is currently part of a hunting lease that will not renew until 2015. Wade indicated that LMSD will pursue the issue further if it is viable.
  • Was informed that a statement on the Board of Trustees Affidavit to run for school board was incorrect and would be removed. The statement referred to the eligibility of candidates based on employment by other government entities. Wade wanted to stress to the Board that all current candidates meet all requirements for eligibility to run for the position.
  • Discussed the election process for the upcoming trustee positions. Here are the details:
The election is for the District 3 Trustee which will be a full 5 yr term and for the District 4 Trustee which will fill the final 4 years of an existing term.
