Veteran's Parade & Stew Stomp

There was a nip in the air but plenty of sunshine as Louisville celebrated on Saturday with a Veteran's Parade and program followed by The Stew Stomp and afternoon entertainment. Area veterans participated in a parade down Main Street with fire trucks, jeeps, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other civic organizations as well as the Louisville High School Band. Brother Larry Haggard served as MC and area leaders spoke including Mayor Will Hill, Rep. Russ Nowell, and Senator Gyles Ward. The key note speaker was Michael Campbell who is the President of Student Veterans of America. Mr Campbell is a staff member and student at MSU and a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan.

The National Anthem was sung by Jerry Nance and entertainment was provided by Steady On, Louisville Elementary Melody Makers and Tracy McCully who brought the Veterans to their feet with a rendition of God Bless The USA. The Veteran's program concluded with the Laying of the Wreath at the downtown Monument.

The activities moved west on Main Street as tickets went on sale for the Stew Stomp. A five dollar ticket allows for a bowl of stew at each contestant's booth and a vote for your favorite. Participation was down this year but the quality of the stew was without question. Moody's Furniture won the People's Choice award and the Louisville Lion's Club won the Judges Overall Award.

The local band "Deja Vu" performed their unique blend of rock and rhythm and blues during the afternoon to keep the crowd entertained. Check out all of the photo's from the event by clicking here and see our Stew Stomp teams here.
