A good crowd gathered at Legion State Park on Thursday (June 14) for multiple purposes. In addition to recognizing the 75th anniversary of the Park, it was also Flag Day. Observers gathered at the historic lodge for a prayer and the national anthem as Speedy Calvert and Park Manager Tim Flake provided some information about the Park and lodge.
The Park was the 4th developed under the CCC program in 1934. The lodge was completed in 1937 and is now on the National Register of Historic Places. A flag raising ceremony followed as veterans present participated.
The Friends of the Park organization hosted a hamburger cookout afterwards and were entertained by Tracy McCully performing several patriotic songs.
