Sheriff Dept Warns of New Email Scam

The Winston County Sheriff's Department warns the public of a new e-mail scam that has been attempted in our area. Locals have received an e-mail from an individual who indicates that they have been hired to assassinate the recipient. The e-mailer offers to not perform the deed if they are paid double the amount and include an e-mail address to provide a response. Ultimately the victim of this scam is requested to wire by Western Union an amount (typically $3000) to an address in the country of Ghana.
This scam seems far fetched but residents are warned to use caution online and to report this type of activity to local law enforcement.
