Winston County joined at least a dozen other counties around the state by issuing a Burn Ban effective immediately through July 13. EMA Director Buddy King indicated that current weather conditions have produced extremely dry conditions that are dangerous. The state has experienced little to no rainfall and unseasonably high temperatures over the last several weeks. The ban applies to all outdoor burning with the exception of the Mississippi Forestry Commission or other certified entities.
Outdoor cooking and fireworks are not included in the ban but citizens are urged to use extreme caution; do not dump ashes unless you are certain they are completely out and use fireworks with care.
