City Wants to Remind Residents of Solid Waste and Landfill Rules

The City of Louisville would like to remind residents of the residential solid waste requirements and services available. There have been recent issues with "large item" pickup and waste items not properly stored in provided containers. The City is now implementing a warning system to remind residents who may be in violation of current property codes. These warnings will be issued to give the property owner sufficient opportunity to correct the problem.

LANDFILL: The Louisville-Winston County Landfill is open from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday- Friday and is located at 3698 Landfill Road. Guidelines are as follows:

     1. No fee for leaves, limbs, or straw.
     2. $2.00 minimum fee for all other garbage.
     3. $2.00 per appliance
     4. $18.00 per ton of garbage or solid waste
     5. Waste tire fees are $1.00 for 15" tire, $1.50 for a 16" tire, up to $30.00 for larger tires.

TIRES: The city does not pick up tires in the regular garbage collection or large item collection. PLEASE TAKE THEM TO THE LANDFILL.

LEAVES AND LIMBS: The Street Department picks up leaves and limbs every week, but they do not pick up limbs left by a tree cutter/contractor. Loose leaves are collected curbside November through April. During other months, please put leaves in a large garbage bag and place at curbside for collection.

"LARGE ITEM" GARBAGE PICKUP:  Residents must call the City Hall at 773-9201 to be put on the list for the large item pickup which is scheduled for the last Thursday morning of each month. There is a limit of 2 large items per pickup (such as a couch and chair). Items placed outside prior to the Wednesday before the last Thursday are subject to a fine for "littering."

GARBAGE BINS OR DUMPSTERS: Call Waste Management at 601-923-5159 or 289-1431 or call Southern Waste Disposal at 601-483-9777.

GARBAGE CANS: Call Kenny Morris at City Hall, 773-9201, 803-4183, to get the large green rollout garbage cans which are provided for city residents. The city contracts with Southern Waste Disposal for once per week collection of garbage. All trash must be in the rollout can to be collected. If you have a physical or geographical condition that prevents using the large green rollout garbage can, please call Kenny Morris. Cost of the once per week garbage collection is $15.00, once per week for two containers is $25.00, and twice a week for two containers is $55.00. This fee is charged each month on your Louisville Utility bill. Cans are the property of the City of Louisville and issued by City of Louisville

COLLECTION SCHEDULE FOR CURBSIDE GARBAGE:
Monday - the southwest portion of the city being all customers south of West Main Street and both sides of South Church Avenue, south of Lake Tiak O'Khata Road, and Jordan Circle.
Tuesday - the northwest portion of the city being all customers north of West Main Street and west of North Church Avenue to Ball Drive, and west of Ivy Avenue.
Thursday - the northeast portion of the city being all customers north of East Main Street and east of North Church Avenue to Ball Drive and east of Ivy Avenue.
Friday - the southeast portion of the city being all customers south of East Main Street and east of South Church Avenue.

TRASH OR ANY SOLID WASTE PICKUP BY THE CITY OF LOUISVILLE IS A "FEE-BASED" SERVICE. ONE MUST HAVE ACTIVE UTILITIES OR CONTACT THE CITY OF LOUISVILLE SOLID WASTE DEPARTMENT FOR A COST ASSOCIATED WITH THE REQUEST.

PROPERTY CODE VIOLATION WARNING:

Properties that are in violation of any or all of the following must be addressed within Five (5) working days, if not addressed within set time frame property owner can be subject to a fine of $500.00 or more.
