Press Release:That's right folks, Louisville's very own Comics Festival will be this Saturday on Sept. 29th at the Coliseum on Ivy Ave from 10am till 6pm. There will be web cartoonists from around the state and even one from Florida and Arkansas; also Pop Culture Artists and Cartoonists, writers and novelists, Steampunk groups, Paranormal groups, Anime groups, and a Star Wars fan group called the Mandolorians.
Cosplay is where people dress up in costumes of their favorite superheroes or comic or sci fi characters and this will be going on a lot at the Festival. There will even be a professional costumemaker at the Fest. Three comic book stores will be there from Biloxi, Flowood & Tupelo with old and new books and collectables. There will be independent dealers with collectables and cards. One of the writers and one of the cartoonists will both have their ventriloquist puppets with them and let's not forget INKY THE CLOWN will be there performing. Also there will be two comic book artists that have worked for such companies like Marvel & D.C. Jimmy Johnson the creator of the ARLO & JANIS syndicated comic strip that appears in newspapers all over the country will be there with his new collection book for sale that he can sign for you. All this and more for just five dollars to enter.
The Friday night before on the 28th, we will kick off the BACKWOODS COMICS FESTIVAL with a pop culture discussion panel in the Strand Theater. There will be cartoonists and writers on stage to answer questions and talk about doing their crafts. The event at the Strand is only two dollars and that two dollars goes to the Strand Building. It starts at 8:30 Friday night and should be very interesting I tells ya.
This is the first year for this Festival and we hope it becomes a yearly event. There's only a few days left to go see the original comic strip art exhibit at the Winston County Library if you haven't been yet. Be sure to come out and support the Festival and we'll see you in the funny pages.
