More than thirty people gathered on Monday night to discuss issues relating to poverty and charitable needs in the Louisville/Winston County area. Mayor Will Hill led the discussion and presented information to the group at the Louisville City Hall. Participants included religious, civic and business leaders.
The need for networking of church, civic and other non-profit groups was a major topic of conversation as well as the importance of stewardship of any charitable funds. One method put forth was the establishment of a clearinghouse or central location to prevent duplication of services and to monitor services already provided to those in need.
Identified as the “Louisville/Winston County Compassion Initiative”, the potential organization would have a stated purpose to change people’s lives, embody the spirit of hope, improve our communities and make Winston County a better place to live. Its goal is to assist local churches and service agencies to eliminate causes of poverty and to promote individual independence and self- sufficiency.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 19th, 2010 at City Hall at 6:00 pm. All interested individuals, civic groups, businesses and non-profit organizations are invited to attend.
