Winston County unemployment decreases slightly

Winston County's unemployment rate decreased slightly from 22.1% in February to 21.1% in March. Winston's unemployment is the fourth highest rate in the state. Only Noxubee, Clay and Holmes have higher rates of unemployed workers. Rankin County has the lowest rate of unemployment at 7.1%.


The Mississippi Department of Employment Security indicates that of a labor force of 7680, 1620 were unemployed in Winston County during the month of March. The unemployment rate in March of 2009 was 16% and 6.1% in March of 2008.
