In a town that loves its football, SEC College Basketball is the sport that brings our community to center stage across the nation. Our small Southern town is the hometown of three SEC, NCAA Division 1-A head basketball coaches, a fact that did not go unnoticed by the Mississippi Legislature in 2010 as it passed Senate Concurrent Resolution 584 attesting to this unique honor.
Van Chancellor, Andy Kennedy and Matthew Mitchell were honored on Friday at Lake Tiak O'Khata at a noontime buffet attended by area dignitaries and political leaders. Lieutenant Governor Phil Bryant was also in attendance. A large crowd heard each coach speak of their careers and a common mentor - Garry Hughes who coached each of these men at some point in their early career.
