Lot of "HOOPLA" in Town Tomorrow!

In a town that loves its football, SEC College Basketball is the sport that brings our community to center stage across the nation. Our small Southern town is the hometown of three SEC, NCAA Division 1-A head basketball coaches, a fact that did not go unnoticed by the Mississippi Legislature in 2010 as it passed Senate Concurrent Resolution 584 attesting to this unique honor.

On Friday, October 8 at Lake Tiak O'Khata, a buffet luncheon will be held at noon to honor coaches, Van Chancellor, Andy Kennedy and Matthew Mitchell. Expected to attend are Lt. Governor Phil Bryant, and many area State Senators and Representatives.

Van Chancellor is a legend in all levels of women's basketball. Currently the Coach at LSU, Chancellor previously coached the Houston Comets of the WNBA leading them to four titles. Prior to that, Chancellor coached the Lady Rebels for 19 years, developing one of the outstanding programs in the country and earning the title of SEC Coach of the year three times. He also has coached the U. S. Olympic Team to a record of 38-0.

Andy Kennedy is currently the head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels and has coached at the Universtity ofCincinnati, UAB and at South Alabama. In his playing days in Louisville, he was a Parade All-American and a Mississippi Player of the Year.

Matthew Mitchell is currently the head coach of the Lady Kentucky Wildcats entering his third year at this basketball powerhouse. Prior to Kentucky, Mitchell coached at Morehead and worked with coaches such as the legendary Pat Summitt at Tennesee.

The luncheon cost is $12 and the program begins about 12:20.
