The dedication of Louisville's new fire truck took place this morning at 10:00 am at the Louisville Fire Station on Spring Street. Local officials and dignitaries joined firefighters and emergency personnel along with members of the public in the ceremony. Fire Chief Terry Johnson thanked the current and previous city administrations for their efforts in obtaining the almost $300,000 engine that will replace a 1996 model. Several department personnel were also recognized for various achievements and training completions. More details to come on this in the future.
The ceremony was completed with a traditional housing ceremony which included a "hosing down" of the new truck by the old. According to Chief Johnson, the tradition started because as a new engine arrived at a local fire station, it was often dirty and dusty. The truck to be replaced would be removed from its bay and parked to the side. The new truck would be brought in and hosed down by the older one before it was pushed into the bay by all the firefighters. Our video records this part of the ceremony as Mayor Will Hill sits in the driver's seat of the new truck. See also our photo links of the ceremony.
