City issues Press Release on Halloween Activities

PRESS RELEASE

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Mayor Will Hill and the City of Louisville wishes everyone a SAFE and HAPPY HALLOWEEN. Due to Halloween, October 31, falling on a Sunday this year it is important for ALL citizens to take into consideration how the festive holiday may be celebrated. Events, festivals, and trick-or-treating will be taking place throughout the entire weekend and we encourage ALL citizens to be safe and courteous.
The City of Louisville is declaring Saturday, October 30, 2010, as the “Declared” evening of Trick-or-Treat in Louisville. Customarily, the merchants of Louisville participate in Trick-or-Treating however this year it will be on a volunteer basis due to the holiday being on a weekend. Again, we encourage safety first and trust everyone will have a wonderful HALLOWEEN weekend.

Below you will find some safety tips for Halloween:

-All young children should be supervised by an adult when trick-or-treating.

-If your child goes trick-or-treating after dusk, make sure they have a flashlight and are wearing reflective material.

-Dress children in warm, light colored clothing so that they may be easily seen when crossing the street.

-Stay on sidewalks when possible.

-Cross streets with your children. Avoid letting them dart out between cars.

-Remind children to skip houses that are not well-lit.

-Never go into a stranger’s house, even if they ask you to come in while they go get some candy.

-Check candy before allowing kids to eat it. Do not let your kids eat candy as they go.
