2nd Round of Storms/Tornado Brings Heavy Damage to Winston County

Mother Nature wasn't through with Winston County on Wednesday Morning. While still cleaning up and covering up the damage from the early morning storms, a second wave of weather brought significant tornado activity to the southwest corner of the County along the Kemper County line. A tornado cut a broad path in a northeasterly direction through Neshoba, Kemper and Winston Counties. While no loss of life has been attributed to the storm in Winston, Kemper County is reporting three deaths. The destruction along County Line Road and Hwy 21 is significant with several homes totally destroyed and almost all suffering some damage.

The Winston County Sheriff's Office is conducting a final damage assesment for the County today. Preliminary information indicates that there were 7 injuries reported; 2 significant injuries requiring transport to Jackson hospitals. There were at least 30-35 homes in that area that suffered some damage and at least 2 were determined to be totally destroyed. The County has asked and is waiting for Disaster Assistance Approval.

Most damage was reported along County Line Rd, Shuqualak Rd, Sullivan Rd, Burrage Rd and Hwy 397. The following photos indicate the extent of damage. For more photos of damage in Winston & Kemper Counties- click this Flickr link...
