Winston Co Finally Approved for Fed Assistance

Gov. Haley Barbour says residents in 18 more counties affected by severe storms, flooding and tornadoes in April are now eligible for federal disaster assistance. Winston County has been included in that list. Barbour said Monday that FEMA approved the additional counties bringing the total number eligible for help to 29. The new counties include Attala, Holmes, Montgomery, and NewtonCounties in this area. Counties already eligible include: Chickasaw, Choctaw, Clarke, Greene, Hinds, Jasper, Kemper, Lafayette, Monroe, Neshoba and Webster. Residents may register with FEMA online at http://www.disasterassistance.gov/ or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).
Winston County Officials have been waiting for approval into the federal program since last week.With inclusion in the Federal Disaster program, residents of Winston County are now eligible for numerous types of financial aid in grants and SBA loans.Individual assistance for eligible homeowners and renters can include grants to help pay for rental housing, home repairs and other serious disaster-related expenses not met by insurance or other assistance programs. Low-interest loans from the SBA are available for eligible applicants to cover residential and business losses not fully compensated by insurance. Among the options are assistance for replacement of personal property, vehicle repair or replacement, and moving and storage expenses.
