While Still High - Winston Co Unemployment Rate Continues to Fall

Winston County’s unemployment rate stood at 15.2% in April. This compares to a rate of 17.9% a year ago and 5.7% for the same month in 2008 (3 years ago.) April’s rate is an improvement over the previous month of March when unemployment in the county was at 15.9%.
While the county’s rate of unemployment has shown improvement over the last few months, it still stands as one of the highest in the state; ranking 76 out of 82 counties. The highest unemployment rate in April (19.6%)was in Issaquena County.
Mississippi’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April 2011 was 10.4 percent. The state’s seasonally adjusted series reported an over the month increase of two-tenths of a percentage point from 10.2 in March. When compared to one year ago, the rate was two tenths of a percentage point lower than the 10.6 percent reported for April 2010.
