Snakes in the Library

The Winston County Library was wriggling with excitement on Tuesday afternoon (6-7) as "The Snakeman" brought an array of reptiles to a large crowd of youngsters. Terry Vandeventer, "The Snakeman" has been presenting his live reptile shows to children across the South for thirty years; at schools, museums and libraries. Live snakes are presented in a dignified, fun and safe manner for all to see. Characteristics, life histories and benefits to mankind are covered as well as the all-important issues of safety.

Special emphasis is placed on species native to the Deep South that the children may have heard of, such as the King snake that Grandpa never harmed or the Chicken snake that ate Grandmother’s eggs out in the hen house! Facts are presented, often in story-form, which both educates the viewers and stimulates their interest in reading.

Some local youth got in on the act by handling the indigo snake as shown above!
