November 5th was an exciting day for Break-Away Outdoors as 23 youth from the Palmer Home for Children and other organizations attended a youth hunt at Yellow Creek Timber and Wildlife in Brooksville Ms. Brother Steve Lammons started the day with devotion followed with fitting each child with their very own suit of camouflage donated by Longleaf Camo of Westpoint. After everyone was suited up and ready to go it was time for gun safety and shooting class held by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks. A hotdog and hamburger lunch was then served around 12, with a group picture to follow. At around 3:00 all of the youth and guides headed to the stand. Shots rang out throughout the afternoon, as enthusiasm started to build as to what would arrive back at the skinning shed. At the end of the hunt eighteen deer arrived back at camp three of which were the child's first deer. A wild game stew was provided for supper as everyone told their hunting stories. As the vans loaded up to go home all of the volunteers were in awe of what a success the day had been. Break-Away Outdoors hopes that they have touched the lives of these young hunters and that someday they can pass on these traditions. Break-Away Outdoors strives to provide exciting hunting and fishing trips for both young and old people who have no opportunity otherwise, whether because of illness, handicap, financial hardships, or unfortunate circumstances.
