It's one week till the statewide general election. State and local offices will be included on the ballot although some local positions are uncontested. The Winston County Sheriff's race has generated the most interest locally as Democrat Jason Pugh and independent Lawrence "Part-time" Estes challenge incumbent Randy Thomas for the position. Thomas changed his party affiliation from Democrat to Republican prior to seeking re-election. Sample ballots can be viewed or printed by clicking here.
In addition, there will be three statewide initiatives and a local referendum on the November 8 ballot. A definition of personhood fuels the abortion debate across the state. Voter Id at the polls and an eminent domain question round out the state initiatives while Winston County residents will be asked to vote on the legalization of the sale of alcohol within the county. The following are the exact wording of these ballot measures as they will appear on the ballot.
