City of Louisville Provides Leadership & Life Skills Training for Area Students

Students learn proper introductions
Area students recently had the opportunity to participate in etiquette & dining training programs as part of a youth program sponsored by the City of Louisville. Working with the Mayor's Youth Leadership Core Training Program, the Mississippi School of Protocol and Etiquette (MSOPE) provided instruction for students ranging in age from 7-12 and 13-17 over the last six weeks. Students were instructed in a variety of social skills ranging from dining etiquette, introductions, cell phone etiquette, interview and dating skills. Students from all five area schools participated in the program that will conclude as students put their new skills to work by attending a formal 5 course dinner.

Students from ages 13-17 are eligible to be members of the Mayor's Youth Council and attend a statewide Youth Summit at Mississippi State University this weekend. The Municipal League's Youth Summit is a two-day event sponsored by the Mississippi Municipal League. The purpose of the Summit is to bring city officials and youth together to share their experiences of their programs and the impact made on the community.

Students who participate in the Mayor's Youth Council are part of a volunteer program in their community as well as developing individual leadership skills and improving communication between youth and local leaders. Two year participation in the program could result in significant scholarship opportunities for students as well. To find out more about the program and how to sign up for future programs, contact Louisville City Hall.
