Political Forum for LMSD Candidates Held on Tuesday Night

The Winston County Voters League's political forum for all candidates running in the March 3, 2012 Louisville Municipal School Board Trustee Election was held on Tuesday night (2-28) at  Winston County Courthouse.While turnout was light and just three of the seven candidates running for Board positions in Districts 3 & 4 appeared, participants had an array of questions for the candidates that did participate. District 3 candidates Brenda Johnson, Bob Fuller and Stanley Foster were each given a few moments to introduce themselves before questions from the audience began.

Bob Fuller indicated that spending 25 years in the public school system formed his belief in public education. "I don't believe our schools are what they need to be and as a community we are not pushing schools to be what they need to be."

Brenda Johnson stated that "We have got to energize the community, parents and teachers - all must be more interested in the school system. We're just going to have to do better."

Stanley Foster expressed his concern about student's performance on state tests indicating the "need to improve to reduce the dropout rate.

Early questions through the facilitator Claudell Weaver included the need and use of mentors in the classroom and communication and responsiveness of the school board to parents.

The election for Louisville Municipal School Board Trustees in Districts 3 and 4 will be held on Saturday, March 3. The election is for the District 3 Trustee which will be a full 5 yr term and for the District 4 Trustee which will fill the final 4 years of an existing term.  To get more details on the election, click here.
