The Louisville Board of Aldermen met on Tuesday evening. the agenda included the following:
- Determined that an unclean property located at 102 Thompson Street owned by SKL and Jermese Hathorn and Shannon Hathorn was temporarily in compliance.
- Approved payment to Well Fargo Equipment Finance for $22,312.54 for annual payment on Fire Truck. Eight yearly payments remain.
- Approved Sue Daniel’s request to attend Court Clerks Leadership Conference on November 7-9 in Gulfport at no cost to city.
- . Approved Police Training request for Perry Yates and Scott Smith to attend U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security, Improvised Explosive Device Search Procedures on Nov. 14 at no charge to attend.
- Approved Police Training, request for Julian Willis and Chris Robinson to attend U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security, Improvised Explosive Device Search Procedures on Nov. 15 at no charge to attend.
- Authorized cell phone allowance as budgeted in Public Works for three employees.
- Acknowledged the observance of Veteran’s Day Holiday for the City of Louisville as Monday, November 12, 2012.
- The Board also discussed Animal Control Budget changes and plans. The Board approved Barbara Yarborough as Deputy Director and made a cell phone allowance and also approved a part-time fill-in position in the department. Animal Control public hours will be changed from 8:00 am til 12:00 noon however Animal Control will still provide 24 hour services as needed. For after hour adoptions, the public can contact 662-705-0398.
- Authorized payment to Calvert Spradling Engineers Inc. for the Transload Facility in the amount of $53,200.00 and authorize the Mayor to sign the related cash request and requisition for payment from MDA. CDBG funds will pay $39,000 and City will provide funds to pay $13,300 until TVA reimburses this amount back to the City. There will be no direct cost to the city.
- Heard from Police Chief Claiborne that the new 911 dispatch system is expected to be implemented this week
- Was notified by EMA Director Buddy King and 911 Coordinator Vera McCarthy of the City's "Storm Ready " status. (see upcoming article on WWN)
- Alderman Eugene Crosby expressed concern about citizen complaints of vehicles parked at a local business blocking the line of sight at the intersection of S. Church and John C. Stennis Dr.
- . Mayor Hill briefed the Board concerning city improvements funded by the recent bond issue. High fuel prices have increased paving costs significantly and with the hopes of decreased prices in the future, Hill indicated that signage and striping may be a more immediate priority.
- Mayor Hill also indicated that the City is working with MSU to provide a student to assist with the completion of a new zoning map.
- Mayor Hill informed the Board of ongoing communications with officials in Leake, Attala and Neshoba Counties to possibly develop an economic development alliance across county lines. More information on this will be upcoming soon on WWN.
