Louisville is now  considered a "Storm Ready" community by the National Weather Service. EMA Director Buddy King along with 911 Coordinator Vera McCarthy informed the Louisville Board of Aldermen of the status in Tuesday night's meeting.

Roughly  90% of all declared disasters are weather related and lead to an average of 500 deaths per year and billions of dollars in cost. The StormReady program helps prepare communities with the communication and safety skills needed to save lives and property--before and during the event.

King indicated that the certification would remain in effect for the next three years and was accomplished through employee effort at no cost to the city. According to the related NOAA website, Louisville is one of only 15 communities in Mississippi to earn the StormReady designation.
