County Unemployment Rate Improves But Still High

Unemployment Snapshot:  Mississippi’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 8.9 percent for October 2012 indicated a decrease of  three-tenths of a percentage point over the prior month. The rate was 1.8 percentage points lower than the 10.7 percent reported in October 2011.

Winston County ranks 70 out of 82 in unemployment rate with a rate of 11.6%.  This does represent marked improvement over the same time period in 2011 when County unemployment was at 14.4%.  MDES indicates that 78 new unemployment claims were filed in the County in October.
