- Approved payment to Golden Triangle Planning and Dev for $62,500 for E911 mapping and addressing services. $50,000 of this was received from ARC grant and the remaining amount is split between the City and County.
- Authorized the publication of two legals for publication and authorized the Mayor to sign related documents for the recent Community Development Block Grant CDBG.
- Accepted the high bid from BanCorp South to act as the city depository for a two year period.
- Approved payment to Richardson Service for repair to a police car in the amount of $1119.
- Approved several training and conference seminars for city staff.
- Changed the Christmas holiday for city employees from the day after Christmas to Christmas Eve to allow for a continuous 4 day period.
- Discussed and distributed financial reports and a current sales tax report. Mayor Hill indicated that sales tax collections in the city were up $86,000 over the same period a year ago.
- Approved promotions of police department staff to Captain. These included Ronnis Graham, Donnie Graham, Howard Marshall and Vernon Eichelberger.
- Authorized an insurance payment on the Georgia Pacific property upon receipt from Red Hills Salvage for November in the amount of $4,318.76.
- Discussed several resolutions related to Ms. Municipal League and legislative action..
- Was briefed by the Mayor concerning the new 911 equipment and system install. Payment to InterAct is pending dependent on approval by the 911 coordinator.
- Discussed the health insurance contract for the City with United HealthCare. The city is still negotiating but a 23.6% increase in insurance rate is likely. If this occurs, the cost to the City per individual will increase from an average of $335/month to $410/month.
- Authorized a payment to Trey Triplett, a student at MSU for assistance with the new Zoning and Planning map.
- Was informed by Fire Chief Terry Johnson that there may be need for 2 short term part time employees to reduce overtime due to a work related injury of a current firefighter.
- The Board also discussed a proposed ordinance relating to rental property within the city. The initial proposal includes a $25/year/unit fee for rental properties due to waste management and utility issues relating to rentals specifically. Alderman Crosby proposed a hearing be set for the ordinance to get citizen input and Board Attorney indicated that there was several clarifications needed on definitions within the ordinance. The Board set a public hearing date of January 15 at 5 pm.
