Louisville High School Athletics Move From 4A to 3A

The Mississippi High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) released the new classifications of all state schools for athletic regions and divisions. One of the major changes, and most talked about, involves Louisville, as the school's classification changed from 4A to 3A.

Classifications are based upon student population and Louisville has shifted back and forth between 3A and 4A in the past. The effect is that while the Wildcats were one of the smaller schools in 4A, they will now be one of the larger schools in 3A. Schools will still play outside of their classification and old rivalries such as Noxubee County will likely continue,  but Louisville's division opponents will change. For the 2013 year, LHS will be in Region 4 - 3A and its division opponents will include: Aberdeen, Kemper County, Nettleton, South Pontotoc and Winona.

Other area schools including Nanih Waiya and Noxapater saw no changes in their classification. As a private school, Winston Academy is not part of MSHAA and was not affected by the reclassification.

We will have more info and a link to the MHSAA full statewide classification at a later time. (MHSAA website is currently not available)
