Candidates have begun the qualifying process for local elections here in Winston County. As of Friday morning, January 7, twenty two candidates for fourteen different offices have qualified with the Winston County Circuit Clerk’s Office. Potential candidates have until March 1st to file and qualify for county elections as the first party primaries take place on August 2nd.
Several offices are shaping up to be hotly contested based upon the number of candidates already qualified. The District One Supervisor’s race currently has five Democratic candidates and does not include an incumbent. Randy Hodges, Terry Kelley, Tim Rogers, Steve D. Quinn and James “Burr” Warner will all face off in the August primary.
The Sheriff’s race currently consists of two Democrats; Walter Coburn and Jason Pugh and the incumbent Republican Randy Thomas. Other contested offices at this time include the Chancery Clerk and Tax Assessor. WWN will update the list of qualifying candidates on a regular basis until March 1st. The Current list follows:
