Members of Community Circles as part of the "Turning the Tide on Poverty" program met on Saturday morning (3-10) in an action forum at the Winston County Extension Office. Members of each Circle presented ideas developed over the last 5 weeks to address some of the issues related to poverty in our community. Participants voted and selected a number of best ideas to pursue further over the next few months. Action ideas included: A citizen's educational committee to work with the school system to deal with educational issues, encourage parent participation and offer programs to improve students' life skills *** form church and school volunteer groups to help those in need *** improve the existing Parent - Teacher Organization *** Improve communication capabilities throughout the county and develop and *** distribute a resource guide of governmental and charitable services available in the community.
If you are interested in participating with any of these projects, contact the Winston County Extension Office for more information.
