Politics Dominate the Week - Nunnelee in Town - Primary Elections

Alan Nunnelee
Politics dominate the discussions and activities in Winston County this week. As primary elections for President, U.S. Senate and U. S. Congress will be held tomorrow (Tuesday), one candidate- current Congressional District Representative Alan Nunnelee will be in town.
U.S. Congressman Alan Nunnelee will be at a meet and greet reception sponsored by the Winston County Federation of Republican Women and the Winston County Republican Club. The meeting will be held at the Strand Theater in downtown Louisville at 6:30 p.m tonight (Monday, March12). Nunnelee's opponents in the Republican primary include Henry Ross and Robert Estes.
Primary Elections for U.S. President, U.S. Senator and U.S. Representative from the First Congressional District will be held at normal polling locations on Tuesday, March 13. Polls will open from 7am til 7pm and is open to all registered voters. Absentee voting was closed at noon on Saturday. Mississippi has an open primary so voters can choose either party's primary at the polling location. Obviously, the voter cannot vote in both party's primary. If you have further questions or don't know your polling location, contact the Winston County Circuit Clerk's Office at 662-773-3581 for further information.
There are several issues that voters should know about this primary election; While Winston County is still in Congressional District 3 until January, 2013, Only District 1 candidates will be on the ballot as the county will be moved to District 1 at that time. In other words, our current Congressman Greg Harper will not be on the ballot in Winston County.  Also, while Mississippi now has a Voter ID law, it will not be in effect for these primaries. You will not need to show your id to vote in this election. The Secretary of State's Office indicates that Voter ID should be in effect by the November elections.

The Republican race for President will include the names of several candidates who are no longer in the race. Here are the list of candidates by party:
