Few Surprises - Santorum Takes Winston Co & State

There were few surprises in Tuesday's Primary election results as incumbents easily held their party's seat. 2969 votes were cast in Winston County. The Republican race for President was extremely tight and Winston County voters followed the state-wide pattern as Rick Santorum edged out Newt Gingrich by only 13 votes.Santorum 34% - Gingrich 33.5% Romney 29%.

Statewide results were very similar as Santorum won the primary in Mississippi with 33% of vote. Newt Gingrich grabbed 31%, Mitt Romney got 30% and Ron Paul got 4%. Major news sources as of 10pm on Tuesday also projected Santorum as the winner in Alabama with a similar margin.

Voter turnout was low as only 22.42% of Winston County voters went to the polls. Only 2969 of 13241 registered voters cast a ballot.
