Highlights From Winston Supervisors' Meeting

The Winston County Supervisors dealt with a relatively short agenda on Monday with most items relating to general county business and personnel issues. The full agenda can be viewed at the Chancery Clerk's Office as well as the final minutes once approved. Here are the highlights:
  • Met with Beth Edwards of the Winston County Library as she provided information concerning National Library Week and some of the upcoming programs. WWN will have more on these programs in a later article.
  • Approved Educational costs for the Tax Assessor and several clerical/accounting adjustments.
  • Accepted the resignation of Robert Lloyd from the Airport Board.
  • Took a bid for lock and door replacement at the DHS building but tabled any decision until further info and/or bids could be reviewed.
  • Met with GTPPD personnel concerning grants for sprinkler system and roof repair at the Teters Building.
  • Approved additional maintenance help for Billy Joe Jones particularly relating to lawn care of county buildings.
  • Discussed the Courthouse Energy Grant and the use of funds for air condition repair.
  • Approved 16th section leases as provided.
  • Supervisor Gloria Turnipseed advised the Board of the upcoming opportunity for Supervisors to visit with the State Legislature in Jackson beginning April 4th.
  • Approved training for the Chancery Clerk's Office.
  • Approved transfer of funds from EMS budget to each individual fire station and the city totaling $35,000.
  • Approved subcontracts relating to bridge work on Sims Road.
  • Acknowledged receipt of the Jail Inspection Report.
  • Accepted the Grand Jury Report.
  • Dealt with legal/appraisal issues on the Bluff Lake Road project concerning ROW acquistions, etc.
  • Dealt with several personnel issues including review in executive session  of a personnel issue in the Sheriff's Department and a review of current applcations for the Emergency Management position.
The next Board meeting is scheduled for April 16th.
