Colby Eaves struck out six and somehow worked around several walks and errors as Nanih Waiya defeated Greenville – St. Joseph and took their second MHSAA state title in 1A on Tuesday afternoon. The Warriors took game 3 of the series at Smith-Wills Stadium by a score of 9-8. In 2011, Nanih Waiya just needed two games to defeat Falkner for their first state title but St Joseph proved to be a challenge.
Nanih Waiya with a record of (24-8) took a quick 4-0 lead in the first with RBI ‘s by Stewart Ball (3-for-4, 2 RBIs) and Zach Hanna (1-for-4, 2 RBIs) and added runs in every inning as they led throughout the game. St. Joseph (21-3) continued to cut the lead throughout the game as they scored three runs in the third inning and added three in the fifth. When St. Joe added 2 runs in the top of the sixth, the Warriors lead was cut to a precarious one run (9-8). Big time pitching and big time fielding shut down St. Joseph in the seventh to preserve the win.
