Whitehall United Methodist Church Celebrates 125 Years

Rev. Don Bishop and his wife,
Rev. Nancy Bishop

Whitehall United Methodist Church recently celebrated its 125th Anniversary in conjunction with their memorial service. Over 170 people attended the special service. Former pastor, Rev. Don Bishop, and his wife, Rev. Nancy Bishop, led the worship service. Rev. Don served at Whitehall from 1976 until 1982 and they currently live in Lake Junaluska, North Carolina. Also in attendance were Rev. and Mrs. David Greer. Rev. Greer served as pastor from 1988 to 1994 and lives on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Rev. Stacey Parvin led the children outside after the service for a balloon release.
Organized on September 15, 1887, the original church had nine charter members. Many of the descendants of these early members remain in the fellowship of Whitehall today. Constructed on Old Ackerman Road, the first church building burned in 1911. The McGahey family donated land and the church was rebuilt on Highway 14 West. Rev. Kyle Ivy and the entire congregation invite everyone to worship together. The church motto is "Servants of God: Serving His people, spreading God's word, sharing his love". .......submitted
