Friends of Legion State Park Meet with Local Legislators

Members gather at the historic Lodge
In their quarterly meeting on Thursday, September 13, Friends of the Park met with local legislators, Senator Giles Ward and Representative Michael Evans. Ward, who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and Evans who is a member of the House Committee of the same, pledged their continued support of Legion but did indicate that tightened state budgets could represent a threat to continued operation of some of the 25 state parks including Legion.
Ward indicated that increased usage of the Park and the corresponding increase in revenues were needed and encouraged the group to work toward those ends.

In good news for the Park, funding has been provided to complete some repair work to the historic  seventy five year old lodge that is central to Legion. Repair plans include concrete and stone work, window replacement and repair and painting  in the near future. Repair costs will be in the $30,000 range.
