The Louisville Board of Alderman met on Tuesday evening in their regularly scheduled meeting. The Board dealt with numerous normal business items as well as some policy issues. These included but were not limited to:
Adopted a resolution outlining a commitment to the National Policy Objective to creat new jobs for low income families on the Rail Car Repair Project. The project requires that employment consist of at least 51% low to moderate income persons as stipulated by the grant. Also approved an administrative contract with Samples, Hicks and Associates for the project.
Approved a five year tax exemption for Grayson Blu. The vote was 4-1 as Alderman Caperton voted no due to questioned monies owed to the landfill by the company.
Approved budget amendments to the 2010-2011 budget which showed a surplus in excess of $200,000.
Reviewed an updated Checks on Demand list, a fixed asset disposition list, a void check list and an auditor's Municipal Compliance questionnaire. The Board also reviewed an Uncollected accounts list indicating businesses that were not current with their personal property and/or privilege tax. Several Board members expressed concern about the amount of some of the unpaid taxes.
The Board also reviewed a proposed employee cell phone policy and an amended Police Department Vehicle Operation Policy. Chief Claiborne indicated that while not all employees were supplied with cell phones, those who are issued phones are required to be parked or use hands-free devices before placing or taking a call or text. After discussion, the Board approved the adoption of the policies.
