Our community has been through some rough economic times since 2008. Further news of plant closings and layoffs are unwelcome but unfortunately not unexpected. This week, Roseburg Forest Products announced the closing of their Louisville facility. The particleboard plant located off Armstrong Street is scheduled to be shutdown by December 26th. Approximately 80 local employees are expected to lose their jobs. The shutdown is likely due to lack of demand for their product as the slow economy has reduced construction demands. There is at least some possibility that the facility will re-open as the economy improves. The plant was formerly owned by Georgia Pacific Corporation.
This news comes on the heels of an announced expansion of Polo Custom Products which will bring some additional jobs to the community.
